Design Derby - Book

Museum Boymans van Beuningen

In this Design Derby, the design icons over the past 200 years of the Netherlands and Belgium faced each other in an exciting confrontation. Over 500 objects were shown from the two neighbouring countries, varying from silver, glass, ceramics and posters to furniture, fashion and cars. The objects were presented next to each other, in chronological order of the time-line from 1815 to 2015.

In the graphic design of the catalogue, the nation colors are leading in typography and as a tab at the ends of the pages. The inside of the cover is red (as this is the common color of the country flags), and completes the flag of both countries at their own pages.

The common red line can be followed through 200 years of Dutch and Belgian design, spread over 21 periods. To give context to the spirit of those periods, a series of infographics were made. Developments in culture and economy show the influence on design in both countries.
